
FM 20 Realignment
Commissioner Westmoreland, Precinct 1 | Engineer: Rodriguez Transportation Group, Inc.


This project will design and construct improvements to FM 20 to enhance safety and improve mobility as this area of the County continues to grow. The existing roadway includes one lane in each direction without shoulders. This project follows FM 20 from S. Medina St. to Lion Country Drive, takes a new route from Lion Country Drive to US 183, and follows FM 20 from US 183 to S Commerce St. The final alignment for the new route has not been determined.
IMPROVEMENTS
Widening and reconstructing the roadway to include:
One lane in each direction
A continuous center turn lane
Shoulders
Sidewalks on both sides of the roadway
Implementing innovative intersection improvements at FM 20 and Lion Country Drive
Realigning FM 20 to meet US 183 and FM 20/Blackjack Street at a new four-way intersection
COST: $18M
PURPOSE

RIGHT OF WAY
This project will require additional right of way (ROW) to complete construction. Once design is underway, a better estimate of ROW needs will be determined.
SCHEDULE
DESIGN & ROW ACQUISITON: 2025 — 2027
CONSTRUCTION: 2028 — 2029
Current traffic, drainage, and environmental features will be evaluated, along with community input, to inform project design. Design and ROW acquisition are expected to be completed by early 2027, with construction anticipated to begin in early 2028. All timelines are estimates and will be updated as the project progresses.
