
William Pettus Road (CR 238)

This project will design improvements to CR 238 (William Pettus Rd) to enhance safety and mobility as this area of Caldwell County continues to grow. The existing roadway includes one lane in each direction with deteriorating pavement, no shoulders, and open drainage.
The project will follow CR 238 from SH 21 to the Union Pacific Railroad Crossing, then will extend the roadway along a new route from the Union Pacific Railroad Crossing to SH 142. The final alignment for the new route has not been determined.
IMPROVEMENTS
Widening the roadway to include two lanes in each direction
Adding raised medians
Installing new traffic signals at the SH 21 intersection
Adding new bridges over Morrison Creek and the Union Pacific Railroad
Realigning the roadway to eliminate curves
COST: $5.7M

This project will require additional right of way to complete construction. Once design is underway, a better estimate of right-of-way needs will be determined. Funding for right-of-way acquisition and construction has not been identified.
SCHEDULE
DESIGN: 2025 — 2027
The design process will include evaluations of current traffic, drainage, and environmental features will be evaluated, along with community input. Design is expected to be completed by early 2027. Timelines for right-of-way acquisition and construction have not been determined.
